After completion of his medical degree at the University of Adelaide in 2006, Michael undertook his basic physician training and 2 years of advanced training in cardiology at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne. In 2013, he completed his advanced training in cardiology with terms at Bendigo Health and The Austin Hospital, Melbourne.

Michael completed a fellowship in advanced heart failure & cardiac transplantation at The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne in 2014. During this year, he acquired experience in the management of a broad range of patients with advanced heart failure which included selection and management of patients undergoing cardiac transplantation and/or requiring left ventricular assist devices (LVADs). He also acquired valuable experience in management of acute presentations of severe heart failure and in patients with pulmonary hypertension.

In 2016, Michael completed a further cardiac imaging fellowship at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Here, he acquired valuable skills in this imaging modality in a high volume of cases that encompassed range of clinical settings. During this fellowship, Michael also completed further training in management of patients with pulmonary hypertension.

Michael is currently undertaking a PhD at the University of Adelaide in the area of heart failure. Michael has authored and co-authored manuscripts in a range of peer-reviewed local and international cardiology journals in his areas of interest.
