Holter Monitor

Examples

Example 1: Sinus Arrest

Continuous Holter recording from a patient with syncope.  The tracing shows sinus node arrest of nearly 30 seconds. This patient went on to be fitted with a pacemaker to control all symptoms.

Example 2: Ventricular Ectopy and Ventricular Fibrillation

Continuous Holter recording from a patient with syncope. The tracing shows frequent ventricular ectopy followed by the development of ventricular fibrillation. (Courtesy of Prof Michael Halssaguerre, Bordeaux, France)

  • Professor Sanders says...

Atrial fibrillation is a consequence of several reversible risk factors - high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, sleep apnoea, and excessive alcohol. Your management of atrial fibrillation must include strict control of these risk factors.
